Why Teams Miss the Mark

Have you ever said something multiple times… and still felt like your team wasn’t quite on the same page?

It’s like putting a destination, say a restaurant, in your GPS and starting to drive, realizing when you arrive there were 2 locations .. and you ended up at the wrong one … 30 minutes away.

Yes, this happened to me on my way to a speaking event a few years ago and luckily I still made it in time!

I was moving and following directions, but I didn’t arrive at the intended destination.

The same thing happens in teams. Many business owners and leaders believe they’ve communicated clearly—because they’ve said it.

However, communication isn’t measured by what you say. It’s measured by what others understand and act on.

When clarity is missing, here’s what happens:

• Everyone interprets the message a little differently, creating mixed results
• Rework increases, costing time, energy, and productivity
• Frustration builds on both sides—“I already explained this” vs. “I didn’t realize that’s what you meant”

Clarity requires more than repetition—it requires intention.

Consider shifting from simply sharing information to ensuring it’s clearly understood
 Share the WHY behind the task so priorities are clear—not just the steps
 Adjust your approach—some team members need visual examples and details, others prefer high-level directions
 Confirm ownership and timelines
 Ask: “What tools do you need to be successful this task?

When communication is clear, execution improves—and so does trust.
