Whether you make resolutions, select a word for the year, or create vision boards, the common theme is that the activity provides clarity around a goal.
And research shows that individuals who write their goals are up to 42% more likely to achieve them. Goals become more attainable when they are visible instead of stored in our thoughts. Making your goals visible creates a constant reminder of where you are headed.
About five years ago, I created a vision board which included a picture of a 10k race. It was such an adrenaline rush and sense of accomplishment when I later completed my first 10k (to clarify – I “wogged” it, which is interval jogging and walking!).
And I recently made a vision board for new goals and can’t wait to reflect on its impact over the next 12 months!
A few years ago I also started selecting word each year over making and abandoning resolutions (like 80% of us do!). Last year my word was Impact and this year it is Elevate.
Writing this word on my office whiteboard reminds me to make aligned choices and creates focus on how I want to show up each day.
For organizations, providing clarity and visibility around your company vision, goals, and career path helps your team members understand how they fit into your organization’s future and determine whether there is alignment based on their values and goals.
Think about how you keep your goals tangible, visible, and at the top of mind both personally and professionally.
Regardless of what your goals are, make 2026 the year of meaningful progress—start by writing down what truly matters to you!
